A Wonder-Ful Evening

Hang onto your hats…fasten your seatbelts…be prepared to feast your eyes on some incredible artwork by the students of Redeemer School.  Our music teacher’s wife took these photographs and wow! They are works of art in themselves…so…

The evening began quietly as parents and students attended a brief meeting.

Artfully delicious food awaited…

Windows and tables were bedecked with art…

And they began to come in…

Soon the place was packed…

They came to see their student’s artwork created from the beginning of our schoolyear…

They came to see collages…

And Zentangles…

And clay works…

And bowls made from cereal boxes…

And fish made from empty water bottles…

And so, so much more…

But the stars of the show were the students and their families…

The wonder on their faces…

The comraderie of fellow artists…

The musicians who played beautiful music in the background…

And the smiles of a shared love of art…

As their Art Teacher, I could not have asked for more.

Thank you students.  Thank you Hazel.  Thank you Linda. Thank you Janice and Pinkney and so many others who helped hang the show.  And thank you to all the dads who helped break it down at the end of the evening.  I hated to see it come down so soon…it was truly Wonder-fulllll!!!

I love it! Nice showing of what you and the students have been doing. I bet some of those clay plaques last a lifetime. I would guess this as now that my parents are gone from this earth, I have the “home sweet home” one I made for them back when I was in grade school! It broke in half and has been glued back together which is what families have to do sometimes so it didn’t lose anything in its brokenness. I wonder if one of these students will remind you of their plaque many years from now.

I do think they are keepsakes for sure! It’s just that the clay is fragile and there may be more than one gluing that needs to happen over the years. Sweet memories!

This is a message I sent to Billy and Carrie Creech, hoping it would make it’s way to you before I got to tell you in person. I didn’t want to lose the vivid details that were still fresh in my mind. Ringo and I found your website and so I realized I could post the message here. We looked through your work and we were both amazed at your talent! So grateful for the impact you’ve already had on Ringo, and our family.

Ringo has been chattering non stop today! He is thrilled with his art teacher and that experience. He loved how she taught and has been talking about his watercolor project for about 3 hours now! He’s literally teaching me about watercolor and taking me through a step by step tutorial. He’s even giving me great feedback like, “I love how you made it look like the apple is shining.” He’s showing me all about getting the paint to the proper consistency and blotting up the water for additional effect. Believe me, I’m NOT just humoring him! He’s really teaching me a few things. Jeff has been anxiously waiting for Ringo to develop a love for watercolor, as it’s his favorite medium and it would give them an additional artist outlet to bond over.

I couldn’t wait, I called him at work to tell him the news and he’s quite thrilled. Ringo’s loving school so much. I don’t know the best way to relay this to Mrs. Edwards in the short term. I’m so forgetful these days that I’m lucky to remember the basics. I was afraid I’d forget the lively details of this day and her contribution to it. I don’t have an email for her and fear it would be inappropriate to try and call her at home. Would either of you guys care to forward this message of gratitude to her?

    I’m grateful beyond words.

    Angela

P.S. Ringo’s so excited all of this that I finally set up his blog (I’ve been meaning to do it for ages, but I hadn’t got around to it). He’s got quite a few masterpieces that I’ll post over time, and I have a feeling that we’ll get many more, thanks to art class!

Thank you, thank you so very much Angela! I am so very glad Ringo enjoyed Art yesterday! We will have a great year of discovering and creating together!
