An Artful Life
Since I was a child, I have always made things. I haven’t always known why or how or what place this creativity should have in my life. At various times, I’ve thought of it as a side hobby, a part-time job, and a full-time pursuit. I have splashed in puddles of watercolor, danced on my toes and in a sketchbook, twirled yarn with needles and a hook, written stories and poetry, and brought them to life in illustrations.
Now, as I march into my 50’s, I realize more than ever before, that creativity is a foundation from which all else gains meaning and energy. Making things has been and continues to be the hub of a very full life. Everything else…being a wife and mother, teacher, friend…emanates from this central space of creativity. It is the lens through which I can see, truly see, my life for the Beauty it is. It is both a profession and a daily practice which allows me to see, to listen, and to be transformed by the Beauty I find all around me.
As I look back over my last eight years of blogging, I can see a growing desire for others to know the richness and joy of maintaining a daily connection to being creative. I long to encourage and inspire you to make things, whether they be drawings, paintings, knitting or crochet, or any other creative work of your own choosing.
It is my hope that you will visit here often, perhaps even subscribe to my blog, to receive this encouragement and inspiration. Come along with me as we seek to express the Beauty we find in our everyday lives, both the pretty and the painful, the mundane and the magical.
Let’s live life artfully…together!
