Birds & Bunnies

In putting away Christmas, the bright, festive table decorations had to go as well. To bring in the New Year, I wanted something pared down and wintry looking. I have a nice little collection of Dedham pottery my mom has given me, a piece at a time over the years.

I’ve always loved the pattern and I tend to use it in winter through to Easter.  This year, the bowl I placed in the center seemed to beg to be made into a bird’s nest! So I filled it with yarn, added a couple of my Nesting Birds, and a bit of holly around.

“Hope” is the thing with feathers

“Hope” is the thing with feathers—
That perches in the soul—
And sings the tune without the words—
And never stops—at all—

And sweetest—in the Gale—is heard—
And sore must be the storm—
That could abash the little Bird
That kept so many warm—

I’ve heard it in the chillest land—
And on the strangest Sea—
Yet, never, in Extremity,
It asked a crumb—of Me.
