Catch Me If You Can!

Do you ever feel like this?  Like your head is so full of ideas, it just might explode?  Or the apple tree is so laden with ripe apples, but there aren’t enough of you to get them all picked and made into apple pies or applesauce?  Lately, my head’s been swimming (or swarming) with “Ooh, THAT would be fun to make/draw/paint/create!” that I can hardly think.  I find myself putting the ice cream in the pantry and the doritos in the freezer…for goodness sake!

Julia Cameron says in her book, Walking in this World, that we need to siphon off the creative energy a little bit at a time.  Reminds me of a too-filled balloon:  if you let out just a little bit of air, it eases the strain.  But if you let too much go, it spins and whirls out of control.  So, if I can just catch one or two of these little butterflies today, I’ll be ok.

Or, as Elizabeth Gilbert talks about here, I could just let the butterflies flutter on by…for another day, another time, whilst I tend to the few I’ve caught.  That sounds good too! (Gotta watch this clip (same as “here” above) of the author of Eat, Pray, Love…it will encourage you!)

I usually lose them all when I am like this. I lose the idea trying to jot it down and all the rest fly by at that point too. Much better when they come slowly but we don’t get to choose, do we? Genevieve’s expression says it all!

      Hello Genevieve,

Oh how I know what you mean – I want all the butterflies…all of em! But deep down I know I would never get anything done. My head is so full of err…stuff, I guess you could call it. If its not paintings its graphite drawings or pen and ink or…or..or making stuff (oops, there I go with that word again) or inventing a time machine my (oh I must stop all this and get my drawings done so I can get my painting finished so I can start another painting and so it goes – round and round…

Thank you, thank you for your lovely compiments! And it is ever so nice to find that others feel the same way about creative ideas and the limitations of time! I wish you all the best in all your many creative butterflies!

Sadly no, I don’t usually feel like that. My norm is for all that space up there to be empty but I’ll have this really strong urge to do SOMETHING. I wish I had this problem!
