I ‘spose I could consider this as one of the 100 Portraits…a portrait of a flower, or two, or three. But I won’t. I’ve been spending so much time painting without pen lines, I wanted to revisit a previously drawn subject where I did paint with watercolor, but had the line work to depend on for the structure. When you don’t have lines, you have to depend on other things, such as color, values, and edges to express your subject. I’ve had this one propped up on my desk for a few weeks. I was trying out Arches hot press paper…and discovered that it isn’t my favorite. But the painting has grown on me, and I like the play of colors. I love paintings where it seems as if the artist dropped the watercolor onto the paper and it oozled and wazzled into an image…I think this has something of that look to it. The following is the line version of the above painting from a while back:
I hope your day is a daffodil dancing kind of day!
These have really brightened my busy working (wishing I was in the garden) day!
I love the “joy” the flowers possess!
oh, I love daffodils! this is wonderful. thanks Jennifer.
Beautifully drawn, and yes they really bring the joy into the picture =) The colors are awesome!
This is purely a personal response – but I am drawn to the later picture because its not drawn! I think the image is softer and gives the daffs more importance – and they’re so well painted.
Oh happy day!
They are both beautiful! But I think it’s funny how people are drawn to different things. Me, I’m drawn more to the one with lines. Don’t know why. Maybe I’m just partial to them!
Now I’ve learned two new words – oozled and wazzled, neither of which appear on Wikipedia by the way 🙂 I love this painting – the colours are so vibrant. I also love the original ink and watercolour.
I love it. Both versions are nice but I think the one without ink is my favorite because it does depend on the painting and colors. It’s so pretty.
How large is this painting?
Hi Timaree! This painting is 11″ x 7 1/2″…I’m so glad you like it!
Very colorful paintings, keep up the good work!!
