Alex, you are so encouraging!! Your comment has just boosted my hopes that this might be helpful for folks. I was a bit apprehensive that this lesson in particular would seem so lame and well, elementary. I have all the other lessons (and then some!) written out and I can’t wait to roll out the others. Thank you for your encouraging words!

Beautiful start. How encourgaing to have someone give you “permission” to take a few precious moments (and draw up a chair.) I can hardly wait to get started. In fact, it’s the first thing I’m going to do today… draw the chair I sit in with my morning coffee. Thank you so very much!

  2. cat says:

ahhh… so instead of sitting on my chair and reading all the blogs of the doers out there, I should put down my coffee and draw it. yes, I think I WILL draw my big comfy chair, and also the view out of the window from my big comfy sofa, and I have just given myself permission to do it in my nightclothes instead of showering and starting my busy day and losing this precious moment.

There you go then Jennifer…your first mini lesson is a massive success!

This is the one thing that stops so many people – finding the time to sit and draw/paint/journal/create. At the end of the day you find once again you had no time to do these things that you so much want to do. But…look again…can you really not find some time somewhere in your day? When I worked I never seemed to have any time to sketch – now that I have time I find I am too ill. When I look back, I could have sketched on my lunch break – that would have been fantastic, I just never thought.

    Anyway…I am rambling on…sorry.

Great start to a great series of lessons Jennifer – well done!

    Stew.

I agree, I think this will be a great course and it is so open we will all complete a different page even if it is all chairs. I’m looking forward to getting everyone out of the office this weekend so i can draw my work chair. I have a few at home also I can sketch.

  6. Jane A says:

Jennifer, this is lovely – simple yet challenging, thought provoking, inspiring … Just what is needed for me. Thanks again for thinking of this great idea, and thank you for these thoughts, and any more thoughts you are kind enough to share. Now, I’m going to be brave and draw in a new book, and chairs will be the beginning!

  7. freebirdsings says:

You are right! Pulling up a chair is a much better mental image than saying to take time out for drawing. I like the idea of drawing my chairs too. Could I have drawn them before? Yes, but it seems like such a better idea to draw all the chairs I use this week than to “draw a chair”. I think we are going to learn how to think more creatively with your series. Great first mini-lesson!

  8. Anne Sauri says:

Amazing first lesson, Jennifer. Thank you so much for the beautiful artwork and content. I love that you “start at the beginning” and show us how to get started. Even though I’m a busy working mom, I’m inspired to “pull up a chair” this week and draw/ paint/ collage my chairs!

  9. jenpedwards says:

To all of you…I am tickled beyond words! Thank you. for visiting and I look forward to “seeing” all of you next week!

  10. freebirdsings says:

I did it! Over the last couple of days I drew the chairs I use a lot. I realize now, I could do another and just might do that. If anyone cared to see my drawing it is on my blog here. Thanks so much for the inspiration Jennifer! I needed it.

  11. paintingmommy says:

What a wonderful post! It really puts perspective on how sometimes we need to just “sit down” for a minute and be in the moment…and I love your beautiful, colorful, playful chairs:)

  12. riverby says:

This is just what I needed – starting on my chairs – and I actually drew a couple of chairs a few weeks ago, This is inspiring.
