What a lovely post! Your sketches and your words are an invitation to let it loose and have a try. And I’ll look for Peter Reynolds’ book. Thanks!!

This sure hit the spot tonight for two reasons. One, I drew my iced-tea glass the other day on a scrap of paper in less than one minute. It was because I felt the need to draw something and I’d been too busy reading blogs and playing games to draw. Then I added some watercolor to it again, just to do it. It came out sloppy and I almost threw it away but instead set it aside to dry. In the morning I rather liked it so taped it and another really quick sketch into my sketchbook. I haven’t finished the page but this goes with your ideas presented here. Time to get off the blogs and into drawing and also not worrying about how perfect it is!

The other thing is that I signed up for an online workshop with an artist, Vinita Pappas, who works very loosely and very quickly and does a really nice job of it. She intimidates me yet I want to try painting her way. It’s day two of three and I haven’t done any painting yet because I’ve been afraid of failing. Well, it’s time to “leggo my ego” and just do it! Thanks so much for your mini-lessons. I’m sure everyone is benefitting from this one or that one or more!

So glad it was timely…but you are a real encouragement to ME Timaree! I love reading sbout how you are tackling your art bravely and fearlessly! Wonderful! I hope the online classes go super well for you! I’m gonna have to look her up…

I just ordered The Dot, Ish and Beautiful Oops. I figure they will be good to share with my granddaughters too!

Great advice (and sketches, I know i’ve said it before, but I love visiting your blog for a colour injection in my day!) Definitely draw lots – I’ve started trying to draw every day for a year with Mary from EDM, it’s tough, I’ve missed days, but it’s helping me to draw way way more often and it’s true – I do feel less pressured by the mistakes now that I’m drawing more. I also agree about trying not to throw away the ones that go wrong – this is more true I think of my journalling than drawing, but is true of both – I have pages and sketches I hate, but they are still MY pages and as I get better at least I can see the improvements, however small they feel! I’m not up to redo-ing and redo-ing util it’s right though, I’m able to look and say “this is what’s wrong” but often trying to fix it gets me in a real bad temper with the whole drawing, rather than being able to say “I l.ike it all except this and that”, maybe as I get better I’ll start to be able to fix too! Sorry for the long comment, but this was a really great post and I’m off to investigate ‘Ish’ and that youtube vid now…!
