Great life lesson and drawing lesson today, thank you for permission to chuckle at my drawings, they do deserve a chuckle!

I don’t do contour drawings often enough …. I think it may have something to do with impatience. I’ve decided to devote a sketchbook to nothing but contour drawings. Also, I especially love the woman that you added the pastels to! nancy

Thank you Nancy! I think you’ll have lots of fun (and chuckles) with your sketchbook for contour drawings!

  3. Jane A says:

Jennifer I had already visited this lesson (and put it into action!) yesterday – but popped back today to read comments: and I found your extra thoughts, on why contour drawing is so helpful. Brilliant!

I love this lesson! I tried a blind contour of my face once and it SURE didn’t come out recognizable – one eye wasn’t even all the way on my face! I like your idea of not needing to do everything such as finishing the pants leg. The idea of getting it all has tripped me up several times. You are the first teacher/author who has mentioned this that I have come across. I am also super happy you added how it pertains to ow we should be living our lives. Very apt!

Thank you Timaree!! As always, your encouraging words truly make my day! But it’s kinda sad that it isn’t a well-known truth that you don’t have to “finish the pants leg” or “get it all in the drawing”… For me, the most wonderful drawings are the ones that have not described everything…the ones that have left so much for ME, the viewer, to fill in! Glad this is helpful! And once again…THANK YOU friend, for your kind words.

well put together Jennifer =) If I were to draw my life right now, it’d be a lot of things around the power plant, and perhaps the cat(I know I know, I am totally obsessed with her) and my PS3. =)
By the way, saw the pictures you posted up on FB of your daughter in her prom dress. She looked amazing. Hope she had a good one. I never had prom before(being a foreigner that is), so I am not too sure what it is. Hopefully I’ll understand it better by the time I have my own sets of teenagers in the house.

    • jenpedwards says:

Well, I don’t know if you would have time for this…but I think sketches of the plant, your cat, and even your PS3 would be so cool! As for prom…my daughter had a great time dancing the night away and hanging out with friends. Of course, the dressing up part is fun too! Thanks for visiting Alex!
