More paintings from that day last September at Julian Price Park with the family. This is my brother Brent followed by his lovely wife Halle, my sis-in-law:
They have four kids (drawing and paintings forthcoming!) as does my sister, Piper, and her husband Gresham. Alas, I have no photos of Gresham from which to make his portrait:( I’ll just have to find one from another day in Boone and work from it. So my mom & dad have altogether 11 grandchildren…wow! My whole family is creative: Halle brings her creativity into her teaching at a local magnet school and in raising her kids. Brent is currently working at Samaritan’s Purse, but has quite a knack for pottery, designing rock climbing gear, and pyrotechnics at Horn in the West, in years gone by.
My sister is a talented actress, sings, writes beautiful stories and scrapbooks like you wouldn’t believe…it’s actually more like art journaling than scrapbooking. Her creative talents are poured into caring for her four little ones…crafting their days with wonder, learning and fun. Someone, a few years back, dubbed our family: the flippin’ Von Trapp family. Though I think there was a hint of accusation, we come by it honestly…we just grew up around all things theatre, music, arts and crafts. It was part of life. Liked the colored contour lines. Duh, they don’t always have to be black.
I love these portraits, they are so colorful, payful, alive, and I bet there is a great likeness too. I agree with Sandra – the colored contour lines are such a brilliant idea, why haven’t I ever thought of that? I would love to see a photo series of your work in progress sometime, to see how you go about doing these portraits.

These are great Jennifer! I really like the random(or maybe not) colors used on the outlines, they sure add a whole lot of artistic touch in the overall presentation. I’d be so proud if my family member made a sketch of me.
Thanks for your suggestion on having my Breaux Bridge sketch printed for postcards. I am still trying to see if there’s any possibility of doing that around the town itself. But I don’t think the town would actually want to “buy” my art, probably they’d want me to donate it. And besides, the size 5×8″ isn’t exactly big, and it’s on my Moleskine sketchbook, which I would be very reluctant to remove from. =)
