Sweet Niece

Bailey2

This is my sister’s 3rd child…a lovely, sweet girl.  I love charcoal for capturing children’s faces.  I  still have so much to learn about  drawing the face.  I may have to do this portrait over and over again to try different papers and their effects with charcoal, try pastels, try it all!  It’s all too fun when you have an adorable subject such as  her!

I’d love to see her sweet face done in Watercolor, ala Charles Reid style. You did such a great job with the workshop, I think you should apply those techniques to this charming child. Listen to me, telling you what to do and how to do it!!

Who is the child on your blog banner? Same little girl?

Hi Jesse…thanks for your comment. I think you might be confusing me with another artist?? Maybe Jennifer Lawson? Annelein Beauchamp? I have not attended a Charles Reid workshop, even though I would LOVE to. Perhaps I WILL try this portrait in watercolor, and in pastel as well. Thanks again for visiting!
Oh, and the subject of this portrait is not the same child as in the banner…the banner baby is the daughter of a friend of mine living in Virginia.

I think children are so hard to draw. You have created a beautiful portrait. The gaze is interesting and alert, the hair is perfectly tousled, and I really like the contrast between the shape in the background and the face. Magnificent!
