What If…?

All too often, I begin a project with pattern in hand, but quickly start to think,”Well, I like this, but I’d like it better if I…” And one change leads to another and sometimes (in this case) I end up tossing out the pattern altogether, having envisioned something entirely different. Then I begin with a stitch that interests me (fishnet stitch), switch to another (mesh stitch), then realize that in order for the summer cardi to fit me, I must add something down the front (sow thistle motif), and so on and so forth. I thought I would show you a project in process, and to be quite honest, I’m not sure how this will turn out…cap sleeves made of the sow thistle motif? or 3/4 length sleeves in mesh stitch then trimmed in the motif? or in the fishnet stitch? This is ever so fun! There are times that I enjoy the safety of a pattern (if it is well-written) but I’m finding more often I like to go out on my own and see what happens if…
